Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Social Justice (DEISJ)

This guide aims to provide valuable resources and some guidance on researching diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice topics.

DEISJ in the VSCS Libraries

VSCS Libraries Mission & Initiatives

At the VSCS Libraries, we are committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. We acknowledge the inequities in our community and are taking actionable steps to address them. Our efforts include:

  • Monthly DEISJ discussions for library staff

  • Exploring the intersection of DEISJ and information literacy

  • Intentional collection management

  • Print and Digital Book displays related to DEISJ

  • Promoting accessibility and universal access

As the VSCS Libraries, we will continuously reflect on and revisit our efforts to improve inclusivity and ensure that voices from all perspectives are heard and respected.

DEISJ in Libraries More Broadly

Academic libraries are increasingly committed to supporting DEISJ (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Social Justice) initiatives. Libraries nationwide are taking concrete steps to educate and provide resources and services that promote DEISJ principles. Many, including the VSCS Libraries, have established DEISJ committees to lead these efforts. In addition to curating relevant resources, libraries are also reassessing their physical spaces to better meet the diverse needs of student groups.
