Using the Libraries

Signing In to Library Resources

VSCS Students, Faculty & Staff have access to VSCS Libraries electronic resources from anywhere. Users must be logged in to access resources. The library uses an authentication system called OpenAthens that connects library resources to the VSCS login.

Note: Alumni and guest users can access electronic resources while visiting the campus libraries. The library information desk can provide them with a guest login.

Accessing Resources Through the VSCS Libraries Website or Discovery Search

When users access our resources through the library website, they should be asked to sign in via the general VSCS login screen.

Accessing VSCS Libraries Resources from the Open Web

Users can also access library resources found via Google Scholar or on the open web (e.g.. on the publisher web pages for scholarly journals).

Look for the following language:

  • 'Login through your institution'
  • 'OpenAthens'
  • 'Federated login'
  • 'Institutional Login'

When you are asked to select your institution, look for "Vermont State Colleges Libraries".

Guest Access to VSCS Libraries Resources

If you're not a current VSCS student, faculty, or staff and would like to use electronic resources like databases, online journals, and electronic books in the library you'll need a guest login. Request the guest login from the main Circulation desk at any of our campus libraries and sign in using the OpenAthens sign-in page at https://my.openathens.net/auth.

After signing in you should be able to access all the resources on the VSCS Libraries website
