Internships

Internships are a valuable source of field-based experience. As an intern, you get a chance to try out a career, get training in industry-specific tasks and software, and network with local professionals.

CCV's Work-Based Learning Partnership Program

Career Services has partnered with businesses and organizations across the state that have agreed to host students for informational interviews, job shadow days, internships, and other opportunities to build knowledge and skills necessary to successfully navigate their careers. Please contact Career Services to see if we have any internship opportunities in your area!

Handshake

Handshake, CCV's career management platform, includes local and national internship postings. To access this tool:

  • Visit Handshake (ccv.joinhandshake.com).
  • If you graduated recently:
    • You may be pre-registered. Click the blue "Community College of Vermont Sign On" button and use your portal log in.
    • If your portal ID doesn't work, try the "Sign in with your email address" link. You must use your CCV email account using the format PortalID@ccv.edu (e.g., abc12300@ccv.edu).
    • If no account is found, you can create a new account using your CCV email address.
  • If you did not graduate recently and do not have access to your CCV email:
    • Email Career Services to have them create an alumni account for you. Please include your full name and the email address you'd like to use.
  • Once logged in, to search for posted internships, click the "Jobs" tab and use the "Internship" quick filter. You can apply for these positions through Handshake. For best results, fill out your profile first.
  • To search for employers that you might like to contact to request an internship, click the "Employers" tab and use the filters. Many employers allow you to contact recruiters and even schedule interviews through Handshake. For best results, fill out your profile first.

Other Ways to Find an Internship

Read this handout for more on finding your own and asking for an internship. As always, contact Career Services for other resources or with any questions!

Micro-Internships

No time for a typical internship? A paid micro-internship, facilitated by Parker-Dewey, allows you to build your skills (and your resume) by completing short-term professional projects. Micro-internships are posted by both local and national companies and are typically remote with flexible hours. Create a free Parker-Dewey account to start searching - new opportunities are posted daily and are filled quickly! Be sure to fill out your profile and application questions completely and professionally; most companies skip the interview and choose applicants based solely on these.
