Informational Interviews

What Is an Informational Interview?

An informational interview is a wonderful way to find out more about a career you are considering. In an informational interview, you sit down with a working professional and are able to ask them questions about their job and their pathway into that position. You can expect an informational interview to last for about 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Why Is an Informational Interview Useful?

Conducting informational interviews can provide you with excellent “real world” insights into different professions and educational paths you may be considering. At the same time, you are beginning the process of networking, or building connections that may be of use in future job searches. Finally, participating in an informational interview can provide a low-stress way to practice professional behaviors that will serve you well when you are on actual job interviews!
