You're enrolled in a course that involves higher-level research and writing. Spoiler alert: you're going to be doing a lot of research, reading, and writing! But your writing assignments aren't busy work. Each has a different purpose, and accordingly, each should be written with a certain audience in mind.

At the end of this section, you should be able to:

  • Recognize that writing is directed toward different readers and audiences, for distinct purposes.
  • Identify the distinctions between different types of writing.
