Career Services Sandbox: Labor Market Research

CCV Career Services

HOW CAN I RESEARCH THE LABOR MARKET FOR MY PROGRAM?

To begin, visit Career Coach, also found on the CCV website under Resources or on the CCV Portal in the Career Services tile.

  • Either type your program name into Browse Programs search box or click the “Browse all Programs” link and browse by field. Select your CCV program.
  • Browse through the associated careers. To get information specific to the area in Vermont where you plan to work, click any career and scroll down to change the search region and radius.
  • For each career, the Overview tab includes local median and starting salaries and projected annual job openings.
  • The Employment tab includes companies that most frequently post job openings in your area, detailed employment projections, and most commonly used job titles in job postings.
  • The Similar Careers tab includes related careers.
  •  The Live Job Postings tab includes links to current local postings.

WHERE CAN I FIND MORE?

Search for more current job postings with Handshake. Every month, local employers post hundreds of jobs here.

  • Go to https://ccv.joinhandshake.com.
  • All students should be preregistered. Log in with your regular CCV credentials. If your account isn’t found, you can create a new account using your @ccv.edu email address.
  • Begin your search by clicking "Jobs” on the main menu.
    • Choose a keyword (such as job title or major) and hit enter or click “Search”.
    • Select the Location filter to enter a search area and click “Show Results.”
    • Click any job title to get full information.
  • You can also search for local employers, even if they don’t have any current job postings, by clicking “Employers” on the main menu.
    • Use the filters to find employers by location, size, and industry. Keep in mind that many businesses whose primary industry is unrelated to your field may employ people in your desired career. For example, though a hospital's primary industry is healthcare, they also employ accountants, food service workers, security staff, etc.

Another way to find local employers is to search the Vermont Department of Labor Business Finder. You can search by industry and county.
