Technical Writing is a form of writing designed to help writers communicate more effectively in the professional world. Technical Writing can help people learn about a subject, plan, carry out a task, or make a decision. Unlike other forms of writing which use traditional academic formats like essays and research papers, Technical Writing uses documents more commonly found in the workplace to communicate such as: emails, forms, memos, proposals, field reports, evaluations, grant proposals and more.
Technical Writing emphasizes process and clarity above all else. Technical Writing is an important communication tool. Effectively using this tool will produce information that can be understood and applied in specific professional situations to achieve specific goals. Technical Writers work within defined formats to present clearly articulated and explained information that can serve as elements of a business or organization.
